Case studies are a useful way of learning. And we are just about to start an interesting blog case study project.
We’re launching two new blogs this September, and we’re going to bring you an update on our progress at the beginning of each month.
We think it will be a lot of fun comparing the way these two very different types of blog develop and progress.
We’ll be comparing traffic, where it comes from and how much of it we get.
And we’ll also be comparing the strategies and techniques we use to grow the blogs
At the beginning of each month we’ll bring you a summary of how we are progressing with each one.
The twin blog case study
The blogs we will be creating and studying are
- An Authority Pet Blog
- A Personal Journey Craft Blog
We’ll be revealing the names of the two blogs after the first few months.
Until then we’ll keep quiet so that traffic from this site does not inadvertently influence their early progress. And of course, to avoid the inevitable copycat sites, until ours have had a chance to grow a little.
Different types of blog need different strategies
We talked about the different types of blog in an earlier article.
And we thought it would be useful to see how these two very different formats compare with one another.
Not only in terms of the input required to develop a blog and in growth rates.
But also in and the costs involved in developing and maintaining the sites.
The objectives of the case study blogs
The two blogs will have different objectives from the outset.
These different objectives will naturally affect our own strategy
Objectives of the authority pet blog
The objective of the authority blog is to generate an income.
The strategy we’ll use to achieve this aim will be to provide a uniquely detailed and useful resource that will attract plenty of visitors.
This will eventually enable us to create an income from affiliate sales, our own products and display advertising
Because we intend to generate an income from the site, we’ll be willing to invest some money in growing it.
Objectives of the personal craft blog
This will be a personal journey site and is not intended to generate an income. That does not mean we won’t monetise it if it happens to be a great success, but that is not our primary aim
Our initial aim is to enjoy sharing a personal journey and to gain more experience in growing a blog in a different genre.
We probably won’t be investing financially in promoting this blog. This will most likely be reflected in the results we get.
But there are no certainties in blogging. And sometimes what you expect is not what happens.
It’ll be fun finding out.
Monthly reports
We’ll be posting up monthly reports on these two case studies right here.
We’ll include a traffic and general progress report for each month, together with what we have learned and plan to do next.
